25 Years of Macintosh : AAPLinvestors
Apple announced during the 1984 Super Bowl that on January 24th, 1984 will not be like 1984. It was on this day that the first commercially successful personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface rather than a command line interface would be sold. And it was called “Macintosh”.
Bill Gates in addition to what he said in the clip above, also said “The next generation of interesting software will be done on the Macintosh, not the IBM PC.”

The obvious benefit is that they can help websites to give end users a speedier web surfing experience, but there is also another very positive side effect for the entire Internet, and it will become more noticeable the more common CDNs become.
The positive side effect is this: More CDN usage means less load on the Internet backbone.
